Welcome to Recon Optical

As Vice President and General Manager of Recon Optical, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for visiting our web site. Recon Optical has been in the business of protecting our U.S. and allied forces around the world for over eight decades. We are particularly proud of our history as a provider of high-technology, innovative products. Whether keeping the peace, winning the war, supporting humanitarian efforts, enhancing homeland security, or providing superior technical services, Recon Optical has exceeded customer expectations for more than 85 years.

The oldest, continuously operating aerial intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) corporation in the world, Recon Optical was founded in 1922 as an aerial survey company, pioneered the field of aerial photography and mapping. From World War II through the current war on terrorism, we have played an important role in every major military conflict involving the United States and its allies. In peacetime, Recon Optical’s systems have made significant contributions to force protection and the prevention of conflict for the U.S. and Allied Armed Services throughout the world. Today, over 3000 of our film and digital cameras are in operation around the globe.

Recon Optical is now the leading provider of innovative niche ISR products and technical services for demanding military requirements and commercial enterprises. We are currently in production of the world's most sophisticated and capable family of dual spectral band (visible and infrared) cameras: the medium-altitude CA-270 and the high-altitude CA-295. Recon Optical is currently supplying CA-279/M dual band digital reconnaissance cameras to the U.S. Navy for the F/A-18E/F aircraft SHAred Reconnaissance Pod (SHARP) program. SHARP represents the U.S. Navy's next-generation reconnaissance capability, and provides a quantum leap in digital reconnaissance operations for the U.S. Navy and our joint military forces. SHARP is currently deployed on board U.S. Navy aircraft carriers playing a significant role in our global fight against terrorism. We are also proud to be producing derivatives of these cameras for several foreign allies.

Recon Optical is investing millions of dollars in research and development to ensure we continue to grow our product lines to meet the increasing ISR and force protection needs of our U.S. and allied government customers. Our employees hold over 40 active patents throughout the world and the list continues to grow. Recon Optical is proud of our dedication to providing our customers with the highest possible quality products and maximum performance for our customer's investments. That dedication is why we have many of our products still in service after being in continuous operation for over 30 years.

Please enjoy your journey through our web site, and be sure to contact us if our expertise or products can meet any of your needs. If you have any questions, our dedicated personnel are available to assist you.
