RECON OPTICAL's quality team inspects and tests all products to internal and customer specifications using state-of-the-art test equipment and facilities. Our quality system is based on ISO-9001/2000, with a long history of MIL-STD-9858 compliance and recent work toward Six Sigma™ certification.

Team Approach. Our quality and testing teams have extensive experience in all aspects of military, aerospace, and commercial quality and test requiremens. The personnel on our teams have experience levels ranging from less than 2 years to 40 years in the department. This mix creates a dynamic environment where old lessons learned are married to new products and processes - ensuring that ROI's products continue to support our reputation for high quality and long operational lives.

Recon's capabilities include the following quality/test functions:
Quality Assurance

  • Metrology
  • Visual inspection using microscopes and video inspection tools for surface-mount circuit card assembly
  • Electrical and mechanical calibration to meet ISO 10012-1 and ANSI-Z-540-1 requirements
  • Environmental testing, including temperature and humidity testing in our large thermal test chambers
  • Vibration testing for cameras weighing up to 450 lb
  • Vibration and shock testing of SRWS system and components
  • In-process circuit card testing
  • In-process subassembly testing
  • Cable and harness continuity testing
  • Optical testing, including resolution, depth of focus, transmission, focal length, color, astigmatism, relative aperture, distortion and field curvature for both visible and IR spectra

Specialized equipment to support these QA/testing functions include:

  • Collimators for operating cameras at simulated operational altitudes, temperatures and light conditions, including the 264-inch focal length (fl); the 144-inch fl; and the scene collimator
  • Refractive and reflective optical benches
  • MTF benches (IR and visible)
  • Light sources
  • Interferometers
  • Temperature chambers
