Spares Support
Spares and repair parts requirements are determined using the
reliability predictions, supply modeling and field usage data from
similar systems to ensure the system meets the required operational
availability at the lowest life cycle cost The sparing philosophy is
dependent upon the final maintenance concept, customer use rates, supply
pipeline and repair level analysis of the camera system. Recommended
spares in the field consists of the components and consumables
identified by the maintenance plan as replaceable by the field activity.
Several factors used in determining the quantity of spares and repair
parts include: number of operational sites planned; number of systems
fielded and operational; historical data of failures of similar items;
and usage rate (operational hours per year). The intent of this sparing
philosophy is to identify only those items that should be required for
maintenance. This philosophy eliminates unnecessary expense, and
justifies the depth of spares by predicting the frequency a spare would
be required for that maintenance level.
ROI develops spares lists for each level of maintenance for all ROI
delivered equipment. The spares list is compiled after an analysis of
the following critical factors: MTBF; camera usage rate; fully mission
capable rate requirement; number of systems fielded; number and location
of operational sites; desired field maintenance turnaround time; desired
depot maintenance turnaround time; and shipping time. Each of these
critical factors would have to be defined to determine and develop
spares lists.
